COMMITMENT

COMMITMENT

A man wrote a note to his girlfriend saying
I love you so much, for you I would climb the highest mountain, cross the driest desert, swim the largest ocean, go through the thickest forest just to be with you.
Ps, see you on Sunday, if it does not rain
That may seem like a funny story but as i read it i thought to myself, is that the way i treat God?

Mark 8:34-37
Contemporary English Version
34 Jesus then told the crowd and the disciples to come closer, and he said:
If any of you want to be my followers, you must forget about yourself. You must take up your cross and follow me. 35 If you want to save your life,[a] you will destroy it. But if you give up your life for me and for the good news, you will save it. 36 What will you gain, if you own the whole world but destroy yourself? 37 What could you give to get back your soul?

Do you stay committed to the things of God only when it is convenient for you? The true test of commitment is not when things are good and rosy. Will you still hold on when the storms come? Job is one of my bible heroes. When we are introduced to him, he has it all. A good relationship with God, more wealth than he could ever need, and a wonderful family. What more can a man ask for. With all that it seems pretty easy to serve God and make all sorts of promises to stay committed.
Well job lost everything but he still remained committed.
Is your commitment level affected by your surrounding and circumstances? Like the young man do you promise God of the great things you will do for him but as soon as it rains you do not show up in church? Or maybe you have told God as many keep saying that if you bless me with 1 million shillings then the first thing I will do is give a tithe to the church yet you are not giving a tithe on the 10 thousand he has given you because your excuse is that this is not even enough to meet your daily needs. Commitment in the small things sets a foundation for you to remain committed in the big things.
In your journey with God, he will take you through seasons of testing, just like he did with Abraham and many of his servants, will you and I pass the test or are we just giving Him lip service?

Practical Application:
Take an inventory and ask yourself how committed you really are to the things of God!
