Bad Tooth Lame Foot

Bad Tooth Lame Foot

Have you ever gone through the experience of having an aching tooth? For some reason many times an aching tooth will manifest in the middle of the night and it becomes a nightmare. The pain is almost unbearable and you cannot sleep. You promise yourself that as soon as it is daylight, you will head straight to the dentist. Come morning and it’s not that painful and after taking some pain killers you talk yourself out of going to see a dentist but that night you go though the excruciating pain again. A friend of mine went through so much pain that he actually took a set of pliers and yanked out a tooth in the middle of the night. The pain was just unbearable!

Proverbs 25:19
Like a bad tooth or a lame foot is reliance on the unfaithful in times of trouble.
We are all looking for a good and faithful friend but the question is, are you a good and faithful friend?
Are you reliable, can I count on you to be there? It is easy to have lots of friends when you have money and things look like they are going well for you, but how many stick with you when you are in the trenches? The truth of the matter is that many disappear.

How many of your current friends would show up if you had an emergency in the middle of the night and you called on them for help? Wait, let me rephrase the question. How many of your friends can call you in the middle of the night when they have an emergency and they are assured that you will show up?
Not showing up when a friend is in need is like giving them a tooth ache. The pain the anguish, the sleepless night! That’s what you become to them. Instead of being a source of joy you end up becoming a source of pain because they cannot rely on you In their times of trouble..

You become like a lame foot and we all know that you cannot put weight on a lame foot, it will give in and you will fall.

In times of trouble we all need a friend who can help carry our weight and get us to the other side! Reminds me of the four men who brought their paralyzed friend to Jesus.

Mark 2:3
Some men came bringing to Him a paralytic carried by four of them. Since they could not get him to Jesus because of the crowd, they made an opening in the roof above Jesus and after digging through it lowered the mat the paralyzed man was lying on.
These four men were not like a bad tooth or a lame foot. They were reliable and faithful. They were there for their friend in his time of need. Not only did they carry him and take him to Jesus but they were willing to tear down the roof to get the man to Jesus because the crowds was overflowing!
What would your friend’s say of you are you dependable or are you like a bad tooth and a lame foot?

Practical Application.
You need a friend? Begin by being one today!
