Is My Salvation Assured?
Is My Salvation Assured?
"My sheep listen to my voice; I know them, and they follow me. I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish; no one will snatch them out of my hand. My Father, who has given them to me, is greater than all; no one can snatch them out of my Father’s hand. I and the Father are one." {John 10:27-30}
Is it possible for a person to be a Christian and then stop being a Christian? Is it possible for a true believer to lose his or her relationship with God? Can a person throw their salvation away or can God take it away? Those questions haunt many believers.
In today’s passage, Jesus explains that his grip on true believers cannot be severed. They can “never perish.” No person or thing can “snatch them” from the Lord’s hand. Our salvation is the work of the Father. He is the one who gives us to Jesus. No person or thing “can snatch [the true believer] out of my Father’s hand.” The true believer is secure for eternity.
Therefore, the question is not ‘can I lose my salvation’ but ‘do I have salvation?’ Have I trusted in Jesus alone as the one who paid the penalty for my sin on the cross? Am I a new creation in Christ? When I truly know Jesus as my Savior, my salvation is assured.
Prayer:
Lord Jesus, thank you for providing the way for me to have a relationship with you. Thank you for holding me tight and never letting me go. Thank you for the assurance that nothing can snatch me from your eternal grasp. In your name I pray. Amen.
