Mom, Jesus' ultimate Earthly servant

Mom, Jesus' ultimate Earthly servant

Mark 10:45—“For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give His life a ransom for many.”

The selfless, sacrificial, loving service that mothers give their children is a fulfillment of God’s intention that they bear the express image of His Son. After all, in scripture, Jesus even likens himself to a caring, protective mother who loves her children unconditionally:

“O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, the one who kills the prophets and stones those who are sent to her! How often I wanted to gather your children together, as a hen gathers her chicks under her wings…”(Matt. 23:37).

Thank you, mom for relentlessly serving your children…especially when it is taken for granted and not deserved (which is more often than not).

There is no better earthly example of our Ultimate Servant than a mother!

Jesus, the Ultimate Servant

Why did Jesus Christ come to earth? To serve—not to grab the spotlight or to make a name for Himself, not to become famous or to attract attention, not to start a new denomination or to be labeled as successful or powerful, and not to be idolized. But He left the pinnacles of glory and stepped into the sewer of earth to redeem me from death, hell, and the grave. He came as a servant, and He touched the untouchable. He loved the unlovable, and He gave mercy to those who were merciless. Then after over three years of selfless ministry, He extended His hands on the cross of Calvary and hung His head and died that I might be saved from the penitentiary of sin. He died that the stench of iniquity might be redeemed from my soul!
What do you think of when you read the word “servant”? Mention the word in the average church, and it creates a stampede for the backdoor. The tendency is to think of some pathetic soul who has no will, who is crushed in spirit, lacking in self-esteem, who is soiled, wrinkled and weary—a kind of human mule who sighs and trudges down the path of life without purpose. Think of this. God’s objective for you and for me is to be conformed to the glorious image of His Son, Jesus Christ. And the image that God has established for His Son is that of a servant.
