Sweet Destination | John 11:4

John 11:4
When he heard this, Jesus said, "This sickness will not end in death. No, it is for God's glory so that God's Son may be glorified through it."

Jesus' friend was desperately ill. The friend's sisters sent the news to Jesus: "Lord, the one you love is sick." They expected Jesus to come immediately to heal their brother. But when Jesus got the message, "he stayed where he was two more days."

Jesus does not always meet our expectations. Sometimes in the midst of our desperation, it seems that he postpones coming to meet our need. Jesus does not always come in our time frame. He is never late, but he is seldom early. After Lazarus died, his sisters made it clear that they were disappointed Jesus had not arrived earlier and healed their brother.

But Jesus works in his perfect time to bring glory to God. George Mueller well says, "When trials come, we should say, 'My heavenly Father puts this cup of trial into my hands, that I may have something sweet afterwards.'" Our journey will have its rough stretches, but when you travel with Jesus, the destination will always be sweet.

Father, help me trust you today even if it feels like you are staying away for "two more days." When I feel alone in the midst of trials and temptations, help me take you at your word. In Jesus name. Amen.
