"So What!" about Money

Image
"So What!" about Money To give unto Caesar Some will save and others pilfer, To be said to be richer Of gold and silver. Men will turn cannibal Turn the church into a carnival Retail disease in a hospital To add coin to purse. Money is the motive The recurring motif In man's daily agenda His soul he already sold it. It seems to be the common intention Money drives our every action We acquire mansions to be mentioned The love of money, our curse. Like a parking ticket outdated We seek to be validated. Released of a debt That  He already paid it . You cannot serve both God and money, The  good book  in Matthew 6:24 says. If money rules your thoughts night and day, Fall on your knees and repentant pray. Money is good, But it cannot be our life's goal. We are created for a higher purpose One in which money plays a supporting role For  what good will it be for a man if he gains the whole world, Yet forfeits his soul?

If you can, Be a Man

Image
If you can, Be a Man This is part ten of the "Be a Man" series. This is my all-time favourite poem. Titled “ If ” by one Rudyard Kipling (British and a Nobel laureate by the way) and written in 1895, I love this poem because it speaks so wonderfully about virtue, it is very comprehensible (Why lie, sometimes poetry can be difficult!), the style is elegant and he even manages to rhyme while at it. A father speaking to a son, “If” addresses composure, self-belief, patience, honesty, moderation, ambition, humility, integrity, taking risks, never giving up, character, friendship, forgiveness and a host of many other issues we face in our daily lives in a truly timeless manner. Below is the poem, read it and tell me what you think. If, by Rudyard Kipling If you can keep your head when all about you Are losing theirs and blaming it on you; If you can trust yourself when all men doubt you, But make allowance for their doubting too: If you can wait and not ...

My Kind Of Girl

Image
My Kind Of Girl Tall and slender, With a smile to remember. Short and curvatious, Jolly and flirtatious. Full-figured and stunning, Creative and cunning. Dark-skinned and sophisticated. Intelligent, independent and emancipated. All are beautiful. All are amazing. Every woman is a wonder, there is no debating. Every man has his preference, And every woman is a pearl. In my case I'm spoilt for choice, 'Coz in every woman I see my kind of girl. But there is that one in particular, The one carved from my rib. Eve to my Adam She's the life that I live. Like Christ loved the church, I shall strive to emulate For you're a prayer answered. ...Like Rebekah was to Isaac The love Jacob had for Rachel... For you I shall copy-paste.

Be a Boss: Over Your Life

Be a Boss: Over Your Life This is part one of the "Be a Boss" series. If you haven't found something worth dying for, you aren't fit to be living What do you live for? You woke up this morning, stretched, yawned in some freakish voice ( hello morning breath !), scratch ya' bum and began the day. Some time tonight you will (hopefully) rest your head on your pillow, (hopefully) mumble a prayer, read a few pages of a novel, (hoping even more) read a few pages of your Bible, wish your  Tweeps  a good night, send some love interest a good night text or turn over and actually kiss him or her good night. Tomorrow you will (fingers crossed guys) wake up and do the same again. But for what? If it’s a business that you run, if it grows, it grows. You control more market share, you affect price direction, have everyone owning or wanting a piece of your merchandise, you make tons of money then? You can only spend so much of it. Even if you buy the ca...

Spirit of a Champion: From Grass to Grace

Image
Spirit of a Champion: From Grass to Grace This blog is not what it was two years ago when I started. Initially this was a place where we would laugh at the silly things that happened to me or my cohorts in the hollow pursuit of fun. Somewhere along the way poetry got involved. As I matured, so did my writing. The stories became a little bit more, “more.” I came across Jesus. His sacrifice on the cross and His amazing grace as to save a wretch like me and those of you who have walked with me all through can attest to the rather drastic change in tone and content this blog has experienced. There is a little more change looming. I hope it will better your reading and your lives. That is the idea after all. Thank you for walking along with me. More importantly, to God be the glory. So no, no need for tears. Put away the violin. There will be no sad songs today. Just a heads up. The “ Be a Boss ” series we began last week will take a tangent. You can  read the first article o...

Living Sacrifice -A Biblical Truth

Living Sacrifice -A Biblical Truth As Christians, we're called to give ourselves to God as a "living sacrifice." The Apostle Paul helps us understand this truth in his letter to the believers in Rome: I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that you present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God, which is your reasonable service. And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God. (Romans 12:1-2) Living Sacrifice - Dying to Self So, how do we truly present ourselves to God as a living sacrifice? In a nutshell, we must die to our prior selves. This concept is wonderfully presented in this anonymous poem… When you are forgotten, neglected, or purposely set at naught, and you don't sting or hurt with the oversight, but your heart is happy being counted worthy to suffer for Christ; That is dying to self. When your good i...

A biblical parallel on the purpose of the law

A biblical parallel on the purpose of the law: Grace W.K. Karanja Drawing a parallel from the bible: we could ask: Wherefore then serveth the law? - This is obviously an objection which might be urged to the reasoning which the apostle Paul had pursued. It was very obvious to ask, if the principles which he had laid down were correct, of what use was the Law? Why was it given at all? Why were there so many wonderful exhibitions of the divine power at its promulgation? Why were there so many commendations of it in the Scriptures? And why were there so many injunctions to obey it? Are all these to be regarded as nothing; and is the Law to be esteemed as worthless? To all this, the apostle replies that the Law was not useless, but that it was given by God for great and important purposes, and especially for purposes closely connected with the fulfillment of the promise made to Abraham and the work of the Mediator. The law was appended to all the previous institutions and pro...
